Moscow-Year-round shipping via the Northern Sea Route will be possible after 2024-25 when Russia will have built a sufficient number of ice-class vessels to ensure safety and stable navigation, Novatek CEO Leonid Mikhelson said Tuesday. Russia plans to boost cargo shipping via the route to 80 million mt a year in 2024, from around 20 million mt/year now, but already sees much greater potential longer term, according to LNG producer Novatek and other interested parties gathered Tuesday in St Petersburg for the International Arctic Forum.
