Global steel output maintains pace with 5.9% rise in October

Global steel production continued its momentum in October, with a 5.9% year on year increase to 145.25 million mt. The total for the first 10 months of the year is up 5.6% to 1,411 million mt, according to the World Steel Association. Capacity utilization slipped slightly to 73%, down from 73.6% in September, but this remained well above the 70% achieved last October. The total has largely been boosted by the CISA member Chinese mills, which have utilization rates of in excess of 80%.
