World crude steel output in February totaled 99.0 million tonnes among the 66 countries that report to the International Iron & Steel Institute. The total is up by 8.6 percent compared to the same period in 2006. China produced 36.1 million tonnes of crude steel in February, up by 20.1 percent over February 2006. Japan produced 9.2 million tonnes of crude steel during the month, up 3.6 percent from 2006. Crude steel production in South Korea also increased to 3.7 million tonnes, up 0.2 percent from the same period in 2006.
