Fuel-Starved Venezuela Awaits Iranian Tankers

Venezuela hasn’t produced any gasoline or diesel in over two weeks and domestic supplies of each are close to running out. Three Iranian tankers are rounding Africa with additional supplies, but will only provide temporarily relief if and when they reach Venezuelan shores. State oil company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) owns and operates six refineries with combined processing capacity of 1.3 million barrels per day, but “none have produced gasoline or diesel since Aug. 27,” union leader Ivan Freites said during a recent radio interview with Venezuelan business federation Fedecamaras, adding that “there is no immediate solution to the problem.”
