USA: Plunge in imports started in July

The first month of the US fertilizer year provided the signal that overseas suppliers were not going to just keep shipping to the US and hope for the best, even though many US traders appear to have made bets on that basis. July urea imports plunged 63% to 72,456 st (65,732 mt) compared July 2016 arrivals, according to import data from the US Department of Commerce (DOC). The drop in arrivals was felt mostly from Middle East producers, which plunged from 128,122 st to 694 st over the relevant months. The largest urea suppliers to the US during July 2017 were Canada at 34,951 st and Libya at 22,992 st.
