Rainer Link oversees engineering at the ePowertrain division of GKN, the U.K. supplier of automotive, aerospace and metallurgy products that was acquired last year in a hostile takeover by Melrose Industries of London. GKN is a global leader in conventional all-wheel-drive components, but it is also a pioneer in electric axles and drive units. Link, 59, says the global market for conventional awd systems will continue to grow for a decade, but after that, electrified units will start to dominate.
