Healthcare provision is facing an unprecedented number of challenges and appropriate leadership is needed from all those working in healthcare to address these challenges. A positive leadership style that emphasises care for staff will produce loyal, productive and engaged employees who, in turn, will deliver high quality, compassionate care for patients. The public inquiry into failings in care at the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust demonstrated how negative leadership behaviours can affect workplace culture and lead to poor patient outcomes.
