A pharmacist who took the plunge and lea

IT HAS been said many times that better integration between the healthcare professions is the key to better patient care. But this is easier said than done when there are multiple barriers to better working relationships. Fiona Jones, a practice pharmacist prescriber in North Wales, is a pharmacist who experienced these barriers and set out to address them. Mrs Jones worked her way up the ranks of community pharmacy to become owner and director of her own pharmacy, before becoming a pharmacist in a general practice. Up until the health boards restructuring she was the prescribing adviser and team lead for Conwy Local Health Board. Working in a number of GP practices has given her firsthand experience of the issues around integrating healthcare professions and trying to develop mutually beneficial partaerships between GPs, pharmacists and other health services in her area has become a major focus of her career.
