Calling all healthcare app aficionados

LAST month health secretary Andrew Lansley called upon health professionals, patients and budding digital designers to suggest ideas for health-related smartphone applications (apps) and information maps, as well as nominating existing health apps already on the market (see Panel below). Mr Lansley confirmed that a panel of judges "representing the NHS, patients and clinicians as well as technology and those who support entrepreneurs" will be choosing the best apps, from those with the most votes, to be promoted through the Department of Health website and social media, providing the public with better access to healthcare.
