Consultation on new NHS outcomes framework launched by Lansley

Consultation on an NHS outcomes framework was launched this week by the Department of Health. The framework will include a set of national outcome goals that will be used to hold the new NHS commissioning board to account, and that patients and the public can use to judge the overall performance of the NHS. Last week's White Paper (PJ, 17 July 2010, p73) set out the Government's intention to stop national targets based on processes and replace them with outcomes frameworks for the NHS, public health and social care.
