New insulin formulations accepted for use on the NHS in Scotland

Diabetes treatment has been boosted by new guidance from the Scottish Medicines Consortium,which makes recommendations on eight drugs this month.Insulin lispro Humalog Mix25 and Mix50 KwikPens have been accepted for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.Also accepted is the insulin lispro Humalog KwikPen for the treatment of adults and children for maintenance of normal glucose homeostasis and for stabilisation of diabetes mellitus.Insulin gluli-sine(Apidra)is also accepted for restricted use for adolescents and children over six years of age who require a short-acting insulin for treatment of diabetes mellitus.
