Recovery hopes shift to fourth quarter

An improvement in fourth quarter nickel consumption is not only expected in China, but also in Europe, the US, Japan and South Korea. Following a pick up in spot demand from the European and US plating, special alloy and foundry industries this month, we expect stainless steel producers in the aforementioned group of countries to return to the market for raw materials from October, although Japanese and South Korean stainless producers have vowed to resurrect full capacity utilisation from this month.
