Re: Late Ureteral Obstruction after Injection of Dextranomer/Hyaluronic Acid Copolymer

Editorial Comment: Three other studies have shown delayed ureteral obstruction following injection with dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer (Deflux?). In this additional series a 4-year-old girl with unilateral grade III reflux and recurrent febrile urinary tract infections underwent Deflux injection. At 1 month and again at 1 year there was no evidence of dilatation. The child continued to have febrile urinary tract infections. Two years after injection she underwent another ultrasound that this time revealed extraluminal calcification and dramatic hydroureteronephrosis.
