The Brazilian cable industry has been through some modest consolidation but it remains relativelyfragmented with at least fifty companies, the largest of which are a mix of subsidiaries of internationalcable manufacturers and private locally owned companies. The leading manufacturer is Nexans, whichoperates two plants. The facility at Americana mainly makes building wires and other low voltage (LV)energy cables and bare conductors. The plant at Rio de Janeiro makes power cables, marine and otherspecial cables and copper communication cables. Nexans also makes some small volumes of windingwire.
