A TEAM from Imperial College London has won the IChemE 2015 Macnab-Lacey student design prize. The Macnab-Lacey Prize is awarded annually for the best student design project demonstrating how chemical engineering can contribute to a more sustainable world. It is judged by IChemE's Sustainability Special Interest Group and is open to final-year students on IChemE-accredited courses. The winning team designed a plant which uses bio-mass-to-liquid gasification technology to turn plant waste into fuels. The team considered the wider implications of such a plant on society, including tackling a potential future fuel crisis and the need to reduce anthropogenic CO2 emissions.
