Dubai-BP has made an important gas discovery with its deepest well yet offshore Egypt, reinforcing the company’s view that large investments in technologically-challeng- ing Mediterranean gas development projects offshore Egypt remain warranted. The Atoll-1 deepwater exploration well, still drilling in the North Damietta Offshore Con- cession in the Mediterranean Sea, has pen- etrated roughly 50m of gas pay in high quality Oligocene sandstone, the UK major said.
