BP, Eni make new ‘significant’ gas find offshore Egypt

London-BP and Eni have discovered more gas off the Egyptian coast, swelling an already large resource base in the Mediterranean region from two recent finds in the area. A well on the Baltim South West prospect, in the Baltim South license in the Nile Delta, found 62 meters of net pay with “excellent” reservoir properties, the companies said in separate statements Thursday. Eni said the discovery, some 12 km (seven miles) from the coast in 25 meters of water, confirms the potential of the so-called “Great Nooros Area,” which is now estimated to hold 2.5-2.8 Tcf of gas in place.
