An IL-18BP binding protein selected from the group consisting of (a) polypeptides comprising the amino acid sequences of SEQ ID NO: 2 or SEQ ID NO: 6, (b) polypeptides as defined in (a) without a leader sequence, (c) muteins having at least 80 % homology with IL-18BP as defined in (a) or (b), fused proteins, chemically modified derivatives, circularly permutated derivatives and mixtures thereof, which bind to IL-18BP and block IL-18 induced production of IFN-gamma, process for the preparation thereof, DNA encoding thereof, and antibodies. The invention further relates to use of IL-18BP in the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of IL-18BP activity related diseases.
