Latest Eni-BP gas discovery boosts Egypt’s reputation as prolific offshore play

Eni and BP Egypt have made a notable gas discovery at the Nidoco NW-1 well in Egypt’s Abu Madi West concession in the Nile Delta Basin, further bolstering Cairo’s ambitions to become a major gas producer and exporter. Egypt has revitalised its gas sector in recent years and production now averages more than 7 Bcf/d, according to the Petroleum Ministry. The discovery at the Nidoco NW-1 exploration well expands the reach of the Greater Nooros Area and boosts gas resource estimates to 4 Tcf from the previous 3 Tcf, according to Eni. The well is located in 16 metres of water 4 km north of the Nooros field and 5 km from the Nile Delta coast.
