New York—TransCanada began moving oil through a new pipeline to the Gulf Coast on Wednesday, loosening a US Midcontinent bottleneck and putting in place an important part of a bigger plan to move Canadian crude via the Keystone XL Pipeline. The so-called Gulf Coast Project is a 485-mile (780 km), 36-inch-diameter crude line beginning in the oil-storage area of Cushing, Oklahoma, and extending south to Nederland, Texas.
