US issues offshore worker safety rule

Washington-The US issued a final rule on April 4 regulating worker safety at offshore rigs and platforms, the latest in a series of regulations stemming from the 2010 Deepwa- ter Horizon disaster. The Bureau of Safety and Environmen- tal Enforcement issued a revision to its Safety and Environmental Management Systems rule, known as SEMS II. The rule requires offshore operators to have written plans detailing steps to limit the role that human error and poor organization play in offshore accidents.
