Ethanol waiver request draws debate at EPA

Washington—About 1,500 groups and individuals on both sides of the renewable fuel debate have weighed in on whether the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should temporarily relax its ethanol blending mandate in response to the Midwestern drought. Comments submitted so far run the gamut from urging the EPA to permanently abandon the renewable fuel program to crediting it with massive economic and energy-secu rity gains. Trade groups on both sides of the issue stuck to familiar talking points, often leaving “Average Joes” to make some of the punchiest remarks.
