US facing biggest risk of slump due to costly oil: BP

Doha—Financial turmoil in key regions, combined with continued high oil prices, pose a threat to the global economy, with US consumers set to shoulder the brunt of the impact, BP CEO Bob Dudley said December 6. “The price of oil has the potential to affect economic growth and therefore demand,” Dudley told the World Petroleum Congress in Doha. “I think this is important in the current situation of a fragile global economy, and I think right now we are probably walking a fine line.” Dudley noted that average oil prices for 2011, even adjusted for inflation, are now the highest ever except for 1864, and this will affect the global economy.
