London-As strike action at the majority of France’s refineries continues and major fuel depots are blocked, fuel shortages were beginning to loom October 14, prompting oil companies to ask for access to the government’s strategic reserves. France is no stranger to crippling industrial action hitting its oil sector-there were two major strikes already this year in February and April over the future of the French refining sector. But this latest strike, affecting almost all sectors in France, has prompted the French oil industry association, UFIP, to ask for access to government-held fuel stocks.
