Exxon Winds Down Arctic Work, Rosneft to Announce Oil Find

Exxon Mobil said Friday it has been granted a license by the US Department of the Treasury to wind down operations at the Arctic well it is drilling in the Kara Sea with Russian oil company Rosneft. The news comes as Rosneft gears up to announce an oil discovery at the Universitetskaya (University) prospect, with a ceremony planned at the offshore rig for Sep. 25 - the day before US companies must officially suspend their operations in Russian Arctic, deepwater and shale oil ventures to comply with recent US sanctions (OD Sep.15'14).
