A shortage of pipeline capacity in Western Canada means the lion's share of incremental new crude oil production will, by necessity, be transported to market by rail, truck or barge. According to Statistics Canada, if every pipeline project currently on the table gets approved, the country's oil output will still exceed pipeline capacity by 1 million barrels per day by 2025.
