The death toll from the derailment and explosion of rail cars in the Quebec resort town of Lac-Megantic has risen to 20 -- and police are now saying the 30 people who remain missing are likely dead (OD Jul.9'13). The sombre news came as Edward Burkhardt, the head of Chicago-based Rail World, which owns the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway (MMA), visited Lac-Megantic for the first time since a runaway MMA train carrying light oil caught fire and exploded, incinerating the heart of the town (OD Jul.11'13).
