EU set to raise import quota for Russian steel by 28 to 3m tpy for 2007

LONDON -The European Union plans to bolster its 2007 steel import quota Jrom Russia by 28 percent, a spokesman for the European Commission confirmed last week. The quota will rise from 2.27 million to 2.9 million tpy because of greater demand after the entry of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU, the spokesman said. He added that the plan includes an agreement to raise the 2008 level to 3.03 million tpy.
