Bacnotan Steel Industries (BSI) in the Philippines will be required to undertake significant repair work at its troubled billet plant before it can resume production.The closure of the Kawasaki-installed plant, which occurred only months after commercial start-up at the end of 2000, is likely to last well into next year. BSI hopes, however; that it will be able to restart its idled rebar mill in the first quarter of 2003, using imported billet.
