USDA expands dairy checkoff fees to imports

USDA continues to chip away at implementing provisions of the 2008 Farm Bill by issuing a final rule that applies the costs and benefits of the dairy checkoff program to imported dairy products. On March 18, USDA's Agriculture Marketing Service released a 17-page rule in the Federal Register that spells out how the final phases of the "Dairy Promotion and Research Order" are to be carriedout. As of April 1, a fee of 15 cents per hundredweight of dairy products is to be levied on producers in Alaska, Hawaii, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
