Consumer groups urge Vilsack to proceed cautiously on Chinese chicken

Just days after a group of six meat and poultry industry groups asked Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to remove all barriers to importing processed or raw poultry from China, six consumer advocacy organizations are urging Vilsack to take his time.In a five-page letter sent Monday, the consumer groups say they "remain concerned" that Chinese poultry plants are having difficulties attaining equivalency with U.S. standards for safety in both processing and slaughter facilities, a condition that must be met in order for those products to be sent to the United States.
