Hopes for New Ukraine Gas Talks

Discussions are underway to hold trilateral negotiations next week between the European Commission (EC), Russia and Ukraine on natural gas supplies to Ukraine in the second quarter and beyond. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Wednesday that talks were tentatively scheduled for Mar. 20 and that Ukraine's mission was to ensure that it could pump the maximum amount of gas into storage before next winter. Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak confirmed that the EC had proposed negotiations but that the exact date wasn't agreed yet.
