Uganda has shortlisted 16 companies for its first licensing round of six blocks, having disqualified three of the original 19 applicants, including state PTTEP of Thailand. India's ONGC, Russia's Tatneft and South Africa's Sasol are the largest oil companies on the shortlist, which is dominated by smaller ventures including three Nigerian producers: Oranto Petroleum, Niger Delta Petroleum Resources and Waltersmith Petroman Oil. Abu Dhabi-owned Mubadala Petroleum also made the cut, but Dubai-based Dragon Oil International failed to qualify (IOD Jul.3'15). Nigeria's Atlas Petroleum was also rejected.
