No Big Results at Russia, EU Talks as Moscow Looks Toward China

In another sign that the talks between Russia and the European Union at the Jan. 28 summit will be tough, the meeting in Moscow Friday between Russia's Energy Minister Alexander Novak and the EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger failed to yield any substantial results. Moscow and Brussels will set up a working group to discuss all the legal and technical issues related to the South Stream project, the Russian Energy Ministry's press service said. It added that Oettinger informed Novak that there are still internal procedures in the EU on allowing Russian state-controlled giant Gazprom full access to the Opal pipeline running through Germany from the Nord Stream line under the Baltic Sea to the Czech Republic.
