Bangladesh Victory in India Maritime Dispute to Unlock Hydrocarbons

Bangladesh's triumph in a UN court in a longstanding maritime boundary dispute with India will help unlock hydrocarbon potential in the Bay of Bengal and also strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, New Delhi's junior foreign affairs minister, V K Singh, told Parliament. "The award puts an end to a long-standing issue between India and Bangladesh which has impeded the ability of both countries to fully exploit the resources in that part of the Bay of Bengal," Singh, India's former army chief, said on Wednesday. "The peaceful settlement of this issue on the basis of international law symbolizes friendship, mutual understanding and goodwill between the two countries."
