Wintershall Posts Record Profit, Mulls Bid for RWE-Dea

A full year of Libyan oil production and higher Russian gas output helped Germany's Wintershall achieve records for both earnings and production volumes in 2012. The oil and gas arm of BASF on Tuesday said posttax profits grew by 13% to almost ?1.2 billion ($1.56 billion) in 2012, buoyed by strong oil prices and a 27% increase in global upstream production to 394,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day (IOD Mar.16'12). Wintershall Chief Executive Rainer Seele said the goal is to further increase earnings in 2013 as it strives to hit a production target of 438,400 boe/d for 2015.
