South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries said on Monday it is to build the world's first LNG floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs). The $500 million contract for two FSRUs -awarded by Norway's Hoegh LNG -includes an option for two more vessels. The two FSRUs will each have a storage capacity of 70,000 tons; the first will be delivered in the second half of 2013 and the second in the first half of 2014. Hyundai Heavy said a new design will allow the vessels to stay at sea for up to 10 years without maintenance. Right now, such ships need to dock for three months of maintenance every five years.
