The board of Thai state PTT has agreed the long-expected merger of two down- stream units to create Southeast Asia's largest petrochemicals company after Malaysia's Petronas Chemicals. Pending approval from PTT shareholders, PTT Chemical (PTTCH) and PTT Aromatics and Refining (PTTAR) will combine to form a company with a petrochemical capacity of 8.2 million tons/yr and 228,000 b/d of refining capacity.
