The Security Council Adopted a Resolution to Dry Up Financing of Terrorist Groups Operating in Syria and Iraq

On 12 February, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution (No. 2,199) to dry up funding for terrorist groups operating in Syria and Iraq, such as the Islamic state, the Al-Nusra Front and other groups associated with Al Qaeda. This text was unanimously adopted by the 15 Member States of the Council (see Document in this issue). Resolution 2,199 deals with different sources of financing for these groups, including oil and refined products, antiques and art objects, kidnapping against ransom and the access to the international financial system.
