Essar Steel appeals CITT plate decision

Essar Steel Algoma Inc. has appealed a decision by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) that Russian and Indian steel plate imports are not threatening the Canadian steel industry."Essar Steel Algoma believes that the CITT made several fundamental errors of law, and it is asking that the Federal Court of Appeal reverse the (tribunal's) decision," the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario-based steelmaker said Feb. 18. "If the appeal is successful, dumping and countervailing duties will be imposed on imports of steel plate from India and Russia for an initial period of five years."
