Bayer CropScience has been ordered to pay $1.5 million to three US rice farmers in compensation for damage caused by contamination with unregistered genetically modified rice. The US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri made the award to the farmers from Arkansas and Mississippi this month. Two farmers were granted compensation of some $2 million in a similar case in December (Agrow No 582, p 2).
