FDA grants GSK first approved RLS therapy

THE FOOD and Drug Administration(FDA)has approved GlaxoSmithKline's Parkinsons Disease drug Requip(ropinirole)for the treatment of moderate to severe restless leg syndrome(RLS),making it the first drug to be approved by the FDA for this disorder.RLS,a common neurological movement disorder,affects roughly 10 percent of the US population,says the FDA.Requip was found to have a statistically significant effect in three studies of moderately to severely afflicted adults.
