ICI Announced a cut of 700 jobs last week in what it says is the first stage of a cost-reduction program aimed at dealing with its current underperformance. First-quarter sales by the company's core businesses of National Starch, Quest, performance specialties and paitns dropped by 6 percent to pound1.3 billion (US2 billion), while trading profit fell by 39 percent to pound 75 million.
