DSM joint venture opens first commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant in US

POET-DSM Advanced Bio-fuels, a joint venture of Royal DSM and POET, has announced the opening of the first commercial cellulosic ethanol plant in US in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The plant, named 'Project Liberty', will convert agricultural residues like baled corncobs, leaves, husk and stalk into renewable fuel. At full capacity, it will convert 770-tpd of biomass to produce 20-mn gallons per year of ethanol, later ramping up to 25-mn gallons per year.
