Govt. mulls SMS service for spreading awareness on cheaper drugs

The Department of Pharmaceuticals in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers is planning to launch a SMS service providing information about affordable alternatives to medicines prescribed by doctors. This was stated by Health Minister, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on whether such a scheme benefiting poor patients was being proposed by the government. The SMS facility could help poor patients find cheaper alternatives to medicines prescribed by doctors, he said, adding that the details of the service are being worked out.
