Effects of stimulus similarity and synchronicity on binocular rivalry

Using Kaufman type and opposite contrast stereograms, we studied effects of stimulus similarities in spatial and temporal characteristics. Measuring cumulative disappearance times of a test stimulus in static and dynamic presentation conditions, we found there were two different types of suppression pattern in rivalry: binocular corresponding type and non-corresponding one. We also studied spatial interaction between the two rivalry pans, which were found to disappear simultaneously with small spatial separation. These results were discussed in relation to binocular correspondences yielding spatial consciousness.
