Heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) is one of the promising technologies for a next-generation data storage. HAMR will use optical near-field to heat a receding bit on a medium up to several hundred degrees Celsius. HAMR head requires efficient light delivery system with near-field transducer (NFT) to generate the optical near-field. We think that the key issues for the efficient light delivery system are the following two points. 1) Conversion efficiency of NFT from far-field (normal) light to near-field light. 2) Optical propagation efficiency from a light source to NFT.
