摘要

In the data storage field, the tape-streamer has been down-sizing in format, increasing in capacity and increasing in data transfer rate. We had confirmed high recording density of ME tape coated with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) in the helical-scanning tape system using MR head. This paper describes the recording characteristics of thin magnetic layer ME tape in which thickness of the magnetic layer and amount of oxygen are adjusted in order to get suitable Mr·t for MR element. The result shows that C/N increases linearly with reducing thickness of magnetic layer. And the increasing the amount of oxygen input also increases C/N, but there might be a limitation in case of overwrite.
