The diagnostic value of hematopoietic cytokines measurement in the sera of gastric cancer and gastric ulcer patients.

Hematopoietic cytokines (HC) are growth factors, which induce proliferation of hematopoietic progenitor cells and they have a relationship with the development of malignant tumors [1]. These factors stimulate also extracellular matrix degradation and angiogenesis for tumor invasion and proliferation [2,3]. In previous studies, increased concentrations of serum HC (sHC) were detected in colorectal cancer patients [4-6]. There is a little known about serum levels of hematopoietic cytokines in gastric cancer patients. To our knowledge, this is the first study assessing the diagnostic value of measurement of sHC in these patients.
