Warm Workability and Tensile Property of High Nitrogen Austenitic Stainless Steel

摘要

Nitrogen is one of the most effective element to get higher strength of austenitic stainless steels. However the increase of nitrogen content is detrimental to cold workability because of increasing flow stress. In order to form precision parts, warm working of high nitrogen stainless steels was studied instead of cold working. Effect of nitrogen content and working temperature on flow stress was examined.The flow stress of austenitic stainless steels increases monotonically with nitrogen contents.It is very effective in decreasing the flow stress to increase working temperature. The flow stress at 473K of 0.5mass percent nitrogen containing austenitic stainless steel is comparable to that at room temperature of conventional nitrogen stainless steels.Warm worked high nitrogen austenitic stainless steels have higher strength than a cold worked conventional nitrogen stainless steels, and increase hardness by aging as much as cold worked nitrogen austenitic stainless steels.
